May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii 2010

May 3, 2010

Below are a few photos of the flower lei made by Hawaii’s finest lei makers at this year’s May Day celebration at Kapiolani Park. The last photo is of a feather lei worn by a beautiful old kama’aina lady at the lei day celebration. She was wearing a traditional old style mu’u mu’u with puff sleeves to to match her feather lei. She told us she had just arrived at Kapiolani Park after having tea the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. To me, this woman captures the essence of a bygone era in Hawaii.
